malice and vice

As David French writes in his latest article for the New York Times, “It is a great tragedy of our time that so many Christians see Trump’s malice as an instrument of God’s divine plan.” I would use a different word: vice. The degradation of viciousness fits as well as malice, especially when you consider what Miller for instance felt justified to say right after the president’s speech at Charlie Kirk’s memorial. No surprise there either: The president loves to be surrounded by sycophants who by now have experienced enough hate, duplicity and malice to be vicious on their own. Malice and vice have become the only programs this government can manage.
